Many unaccompanied children are unrepresented, creating a serious impediment to their ability to access protection. A study by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, or TRAC, of closed cases in the immigration courts found that only one third of unaccompanied children, and one-quarter of families from Central America, had representation in their hearings in 2014. Children were five times more likely to win their cases with a lawyer than without, while families were fourteen times more likely to win their cases.......[Citing TRAC research].
