Data shows asylum grant rates dropped even before President Donald Trump took office for a second time. The TRAC Research Center at Syracuse University has recorded the fluctuation of asylum approval rates over the last 20 years.
In November, TRAC announced asylum grant rates dropped by a third in the last few months of President Joe Biden's administration to 35%. But when TRAC's data was crunched by fiscal year, it showed during President Biden's term the average asylum approval rate was 45%. During Trump's first term, the grant rate was about 31%.
