The Criminalization and Deportation of African and African-descendant Migrants in the United States

Using the latest available information from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University, Thurgood Marshall Institute researchers analyzed data regarding the ten countries listed in Table 1 that had the highest number of Black immigrants to the United States. They determined that from October 2023 to February 2024, forty percent of deported immigrants from these countries had a criminal conviction.
