ICE detentions exceed 50,000 for 1st time since 2019, data shows

There were 51,302 people in ICE detention facilities nationwide as of June 1, according to new data released by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC). That’s the most since September 2019, during the first Trump administration when ICE detentions capped at 50,000, TRAC reports.At the time, ICE operated more detention facilities — a total of 213.Today, ICE operates 155 detention centers, which is up from 107 when Trump took office in late January. The Adams County Detention Facility in Natchez, Mississippi, however, held the most immigrants — 2,168 per day in May. Only 13 facilities report holding over 1,000 immigrants, including 1,659 at the the South Texas ICE Processing Center located in Pearsall, Texas.
