Harris County, with one of the highest detainer volumes in the state, received about 1,500 from February to May this year – up 25% from roughly 1,200 a year earlier.
The county has consistently ranked at or near the top of the nation in ICE detainer numbers, often surpassing other large counties like Los Angeles County in California and Maricopa County in Arizona, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a nonprofit that compiles and analyzes immigration data.
Other Texas counties saw even sharper increases in detainers. Tarrant County’s total more than doubled from 415 to 857. Dallas County’s rose 71%, from 997 to 1,700. The number in Montgomery County, just north of Houston, jumped 126%, from 175 to 396.
