Nebraska converts prison into federal immigration center, aims to fill it by Thanksgiving |
|
Nearly 60,000 people were being held in immigration detention by mid-September — a 51% increase since January, according to the nonprofit Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. About 70% of those detained have no criminal record, TRAC says. Many others have convictions for offenses as minor as a traffic violation. |
