More than 31,000 people with pending cases in Detroit Immigration Court, Michigan’s only immigration court, according to data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University.
That backlog has grown from about 4,200 cases in 2017 and represents a surge through both the previous Trump and Biden administrations.
ICE arrests in Michigan have jumped from two to three people per day before President Donald Trump’s second term to an average of 11 per day between June and October.
