New data shows that the vast number of migrants slated for deportation proceedings did not have criminal charges brought against them in February.
Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse of Syracuse University reported on Tuesday that 98% of those whom the Department of Homeland Security filed deportation proceedings against in February did not have criminal charges.
In February, DHS filed just 741 deportation orders issued based on claims of alleged criminal activity as the basis seeking their removal. That’s 2% of all “notice to appear” (NTA’s), which lead to deportations, that were filed by the agency that month, TRAC reports.
