The number of federal lawsuits involving immigration matters is at a record high and is driven by the increasing numbers of detained migrants, according to a new report.
A total of 9,911 new federal lawsuits were filed in March involving immigration matters — the highest ever on record, according to a new report by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), of Syracuse University.
“Civil immigration filings are surging,” the TRAC report says.
Lawsuits filed were up 9.2% from February with the largest increase in filings of habeas corpus lawsuits and naturalization lawsuits, TRAC reports.
