The data show that only a small per­cent­age of de­por­ta­tions in­volve crimes be­yond the pri­mary in­frac­tion of en­ter­ing the coun­try il­le­gally. Ac­cord­ing to the Trans­ac­tional Records Ac­cess Clear­ing­house (TRAC) at Syra­cuse Uni­ver­sity, of 309,330 new im­mi­gra­tion cases na­tion­wide so far in 2026, only 1.8% tar­geted those with crim­i­nal con­vic­tions, while 70.8% of im­mi­grants cur­rently in de­ten­tion have no crim­i­nal record.
