Last month, U.S. immigration judges granted asylum to 823 people, according to data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, TRAC, a sharp drop from 1,958 granted in August 2025.
Over the entire fiscal year, only 9,620 people have won their asylum cases compared to 28,798 last year.
At the same time, denials have soared. So far this fiscal year, immigration judges across the country rejected nearly 88% of asylum claims – a spike from the 68% denial rate last year and 48% rate in 2024.
