ICE detention is civil detention, not criminal, meaning no one in immigration detention is serving a sentence for a crime, regardless of whether they have a prior criminal record. About 70% of current ICE detainees have no criminal conviction on their record, and many with convictions have only traffic violations, according to Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. |
