The latest posted August 29, 2025, figures show that the total number of noncitizens ICE has arrested
appears to have stalled. In fact, arrest numbers are down 14 percent from June’s daily average of
1,124 reported arrests compared with August’s corresponding daily average of just 1,055.
It would appear that President Trump’s orders recently assigning substantial personnel from the
national guard and the U.S. military to target
Los Angeles
and
Washington, D.C.
may have been counter-productive in failing to increase total arrests countrywide. And there is little
evidence so far that the thousands of additional investigators who have been diverted from the
FBI,
DEA, ATF, and U.S. Marshals Service
to assist ICE has been an effective strategy to boost immigration arrests either.
ICE is far, far below the level of
3,000
daily arrests ordered last May.
Detention numbers are up slightly – although major doubts remain on how complete or accurate ICE’s
posted numbers actually are. The number of detention facilities ICE reports using has fallen. In June
ICE reported using 201 detention facilities while in August this fell to just 186. Yet ICE reports
a major push
to add facilities from states and military bases to detain noncitizens who have been arrested.
