The Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives referred 987 suspects to U.S. Attorneys for criminal prosecution in July 2025.

In July 2025 U.S. Attorneys acted on 913 ATF referrals they had received, charging 622 defendants or 68 percent, with crimes in U.S. district courts and closing 291 ATF referrals without prosecution.

U.S. Attorneys reported taking an average of 507 days days between receipt of a ATF criminal referral and reaching either sentencing or not guilty verdict in court during July 2025.

In July 2025, U.S. Attorneys reported out of 785 prosecutions of ATF-led investigations, a total of 735 defendants were convicted (or 94%), while 50 were not convicted.

In July 2025 U.S. Attorneys reported more individuals convicted in ATF-led investigations relative to population size in the Vermont than in any other federal district.

In July 2025, U.S. Attorneys reported that individuals convicted in U.S. district courts after investigations led by the ATF received a median prison sentence of 48 months.
