In September 2025 U.S. Attorneys acted on 1,249 ATF referrals they had received, charging 698 defendants or 56 percent, with crimes in U.S. district courts and closing 551 ATF referrals without prosecution.

U.S. Attorneys reported taking an average of 499 days days between receipt of a ATF criminal referral and reaching either sentencing or not guilty verdict in court during September 2025.

In September 2025, U.S. Attorneys reported out of 993 prosecutions of ATF-led investigations, a total of 887 defendants were convicted (or 89%), while 106 were not convicted.
